Women's Wellness Program
Call to Action
African American women are infected with HIV at an alarming rate and are too often diagnosed at a later stage in the disease when women are more at risk of having AIDS. HIV/AIDS is the number one killer of African American women ages 25 to 34. As EFA serves the St. Louis community, much of our focus is directed to women of color through our Women's Wellness Program. Our message is for women to take action, learn their HIV status, and learn more about resources that are available to them.
The Program
The Women's Wellness Program is designed to offer education, referrals, and support to the growing number of black women infected with the HIV. Commercial and survival sex workers, neighborhoods with high infection rates, and community venues are part of our outreach efforts to help more women learn about HIV and access resources that are available. Referrals may be directed through EFA's mobile outreach, churches, shelters, drug rehab clinics, pantries, and abandoned buildings.
Referrals
Some women aren't aware of the services the St. Louis community has available to them. Our Women's Wellness Coordinator can help provide women with referrals, information and resources to take care of themselves, including HIV education, prevention information, housing, birth control and medical services. We also offer emotional support if a sister needs to talk.
